This award-winning film tells the story of Jose Luis Bonilla, a Mexican immigrant dishwasher-turned-entrepreneur who worked twenty years to fulfill his vision of a ‘Mexican Disneyland’ in the heart of California. Bonilla’s goal was to create a place ‘people can admire and know that a Mexican who came to wash dishes was the one who did it.’ Enjoy this inspiring story of what was achieved when one Mexican put his mind, heart, hands and soul to work fulfilling his American dream.
After introducing and showing the 26-minute film, filmmaker and educator Kevin Bender leads an interactive discussion about Bonilla’s vision and how he realized it, as well as Bender’s own vision in making the film. He also encourages and educates audience members in how to create and communicate their own vision.
Perfect for Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15-Oct 15), this event is ideal for schools, libraries, community centers, festivals, bookstores, and other venues and audiences. Thinking Grande! has been called ‘a must see’ and is part of the California Council for the Humanities’ California Documentary Project.

I just learned about Rancho Bonilla on KPBS/San Diego. What a wonderful story! We're accompanying our granddaughter to her orientation at UCSB at the end of next month. This will make a great side trip. Just hope it will be open to the public that weekend. Thanks to those who are working to keep Mr. Bonilla's dream alive!!!
